„What make you hopeful about the future?“ the interviewer asks Kristen Steward in the back and white mood clip opening the Chanel SS 2023 Ready-to-wear fashion show.
„You know, we are living in such an accelerated period of growth, it gives me whiplash.“ - Kirsten answers., „And its highly pressurised, because our identities are these lifelong evolving art projects. To know who you are is to adopt an animal subject to change. It’s not a fixed notion. The mythologies that define us, that unite us, they’re ours to create. Everything is on the table. It's no longer important to know who you are or what you want. I think it's important to burn down your ver best yesterday, everyday so you can start again."
Chanel's show kicks off with model walking out of the black and white screen onto the runway, the mood of the short clip projected onto the wall behind them.
The collection showcased tweeds, detailed with ribbons and sparkly buttons. Ostrich feathers highlighted some others pieces. Jackets, cardigans, shorts, tomboy knits, short-coat dresses all the way to evening gowns. With a color palette from ivory to black and grey to blue, Chanel stayed true to the familiar picture they have created other the years.
Silver waist chains decorating the floor-long gowns swinging along as the models continue their walk down the runway. Sheer fabrics in skirts and capes highlighted with ostrich feathers gave the collection a light note. Asymmetrical lines ans shapes widened the spectrum of the usually traditional designs. Necklaces with tiny Chanel perfume flasks, fish-net socks and silver waist/body chains were a common sight.
Virginie Viard created a timeless version of Chanel inviting woman of all shapes and body types, as shown on the runway, to embrace her collection.
Chanel Ambassadors Kristen Steward, Jennie from Blackpink and others supported the show in the front row.
